Bio

409 (Jaime Juárez) is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in Mexico City. He began producing electronic music in 2000 and has since expanded his practice into glitch art, audiovisual loops and digitally manipulated image, exploring ideas such as life cycles and self-escape.
His work stems from a direct relationship with technology — programming, data manipulation, electronic circuits and interactive pieces — as tools for building his practice. He also creates printed works recognized for their detail and experimental aesthetic. His work has been exhibited in New York, Tokyo, Australia and other international venues.

Artist Statement

For me, creating is a process of exploration in which what matters most is that the result resonates with me, and ideally expresses something meaningful. Rather than adhering to a specific medium, I use whatever technique or tool is necessary to materialize an idea. Learning something new, combining aesthetics and adapting technologies are fundamental parts of my practice.

I see errors and accidents as starting points for creating unique and more compelling works, adding layers of depth that would not otherwise exist, much like our own experiences — including failures — make us more complex.
