ALTERED PORTRAITS

Altered Portraits is a collection of digitally reconstructed portraits of friends, family and acquaintances.

Each image is processed through FAM-1, a system that decomposes photographs into luminosity-based layers, applies independent sequences of effects to each, and recombines them into a final composition.

The work operates through a continuous exchange between system-driven processing and manual intervention. Parameters such as color, brightness and saturation are adjusted throughout the procedure, allowing each image to evolve during its own construction.

The source material comes from personal photographs — phones, digital cameras, rescued printed images. With over 800 works, the collection functions as an expanding archive in which each portrait becomes a distinct variation, reflecting on the layered nature of identity and the way perception shifts with proximity.

An online archive allows viewers to access the images by entering a name, retrieving a corresponding set of portraits.

The project was presented as a solo exhibition at Casa Rafael Galván, where it remained on view for three weeks.
