Based in Mexico City, 409 is a multidisciplinary artist who fuses techno, polyrhythms, and sound design in his music. Influenced by the groundbreaking electronic sounds of the 1990s IDM scene, 409 crafts artisanal sonic collages from sounds like machines, nature and field recordings, creating a unique sonic experience.
BIO
409 is a self-taught music maker that began editing sounds into music in 2000. With basic sound generators, TV and radio recordings connected to his PC, and low-quality recordings of school instruments like wooden claves and educational harps, he created his first tracks without much regard for rhythm or harmony.
Obsessed with these tracks and emulating bands like Autechre, Panasonic, and Squarepusher, he developed his own composition technique and kept learning until eventually studied audio engineering.
After becoming a sound designer and working on more than 50 feature films, 409 released his first album where he combines his own refined method of composing with microsampling and sound design.
409 is a multidisciplinary artist and has also explored visual art where he creates audio visual loops. His visuals like his music are a collage, characterized by glitch aesthetics, saturated tones, and intentional malfunctions. Positioned at the crossroads of music, audio engineering and visual arts, 409's artworks have been showcased in Mexico City, London, New York and Tokyo.
